    Come Home To Rest
Norrag is luxury you can lie on - designed as a mat which allows your body to sigh with relief the moment you rest.
My parents are from the Scottish Highlands and Gaelic was the other language of their childhood. Norrag means ‘forty winks’ or a short rest in Gaelic. My father grew up in a Gaelic speaking home where this word was woven into daily life. Growing up, if we couldn’t find Dad, we knew that he was away for a norrag. For me, the word Norrag is a reminder that rest doesn’t need to be grand or complicated. Even the smallest pause is deeply restorative.
Each Norrag mat is made in collaboration with Studio Tolsta in India, an ethical studio known for its craftsmanship and soul. The outer layer is soft, natural handwoven cotton and the filling is kapok, which is a sustainable, cloud like fibre hand harvested from trees. Every stitch, every fold and every element is designed to support deep rest because when something is made slowly and with intention, it carries a different energy.
I realise that my father’s norrags take him to the same place my breathwork, meditation and yoga nidra take me - a quiet, timeless space where the body softens, the mind rests and everything resets.
I wanted to bring this feeling to life through something beautiful, supportive and lasting. These mats are not designed for workouts but for true deep rest.
Norrag is also a story of lifelong friendship and craftsmanship.
Catriona McIver, founder of Studio Tolsta, studied at Central Saint Martins in London before travelling to India to immerse herself in the artistry and heritage of textile craftsmanship. There in Chennai, she fell in love, built a life and founded Studio Tolsta, which is a creative studio that honours traditional making, natural materials and mindful, sustainable design.
Norrag and Studio Tolsta share deep roots in Scottish heritage and a reverence for natural materials. Our parents have been friends since they were young and the connection has carried through to the next generation.
Every Norrag mat is created in collaboration with Studio Tolsta, blending friendship, artistry and soulful craftsmanship into something truly timeless.

Integrity and devotion are woven into every stitch, making each mat a true work of care and craft.
I created Norrag to bring softness and stillness into daily life. It’s so easy to stay in cycles of striving and shallow rest, yet discovering the power of breathwork, deep rest and nervous system healing changes everything. To me, the Norrag mat feels both practical and symbolic. It serves as a quiet place to soften, breathe and come home to yourself. My hope is that every time you lie down on it, you feel supported, relaxed and at peace.
